    Phillip's Success story:

By supporting EGI, you are supporting individuals like Phillip, who is legally blind. After graduating from Ivy Tech Community College with an Associates Degree in Accounting, Phillip was ready to work. Phillip first visited EGI for a Benefits Information Network (BIN) analysis, which gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to meet with a counselor to assess the different benefits available to them. After meeting with Danielle, a Goodwill Employment Specialist, Phillip decided to also work with EGI during his job search journey through the WORK Solutions program.

When Phillip first started in WORK Solutions towards the end of 2018, Danielle and he started by talking to different people to determine if he would be able to use adaptive technology, which allow him to see computer screens better, at jobs he was interested in. After determining he would, he started applying for jobs and going through the interview process. However, due to his lack of work experience, he couldn't get a job.

In order to build up his work experience, Danielle set up a position for him at EGI.
In February of 2020, he started assisting the accounting team with auditing time cards. In addition to helping out, he was also able to regularly attend Evansville Goodwill Business Advisory Council meetings. At these meetings, he was introduced to an individual from a national banking company who saw his progress and prompted him to apply for a summer internship there.
He started the internship in June of 2020, but at first he didn't have any assignments. Phillip still arrived everyday and stayed busy by educating himself through courses available at the bank. After securing the adequate adaptive technology, he was moved to the loan operations department where he helped with digitizing paper work.

After months of hard work, he was hired full-time in April of 2021 as a Credit Systems Coordinator. Since working with Evansville Goodwill, Phillip is now financially independent and has a job he loves. "I feel like I am better situated in the world and I have more of a security blanket"

Phillip said in reference to Evansville Goodwill Industries. By supporting Evansville Goodwill, you are creating more stories like Phillip's.
